Iron-Ons, T-shirt Transfers

I totally need this!!!
Do you remember those t-shirt stores in the mall?  In the 80's, every mall had one.  A store will countless iron-ons to pick from to get transfered to a ringer t-shirt (usually white t-shirt with colored ring collar and sleeves) or a baseball shirt (usually white t-shirt with raglan sleeves).  Problem with iron ons usually was that they would look bad after your mom forgot that they couldn't go in the dryer, or the shirt was too stretchy.  Either way, you would spend your hard earned allowance on an awesome Mr/T shirt, only to have the picture all cracked and jacked up looking after one week.  Still, where else could you find exercising cats on a shirt?  Or glitter pictures of Ponch and John from CHiPs?  Sadly, the iron on trend is gone, but there are still some die hards out there, hawking their vintage wares on Ebay and Etsy!  I came across this shop today and just had to share it in case you never got the glitter Mystery Machine shirt you always wanted.  You know my motto is, "It's never to late to have a good childhood."

Did anyone really ever do this to their Gremlin?

www.irononstation.com Their website and Iron On Station Etsy Store.  They seem

to have different items on each.  I am sure there are lots of sites and stores out there with these items, in case you don't find EXACTLY what you want.  But these guys have some pretty fun stuff.

Did you want Underoos for Christmas as a kid?

My sister got a pair of Wonder Woman and my brothers had Spiderman and Superman.  I got Strawberry Shortcake Undies instead.  They weren't quite as wild and fun as Underoos.  Did you know they make them now in Adult Sizes?  I saw them at Hot Topic the other day.  So Cool!

Disnelyland Details - Toad Hall ~ Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

When we went to Disneyland last month I wanted to take photos of some of the little details. One of the things that makes Disneyland such an amazing place are all of the little details. One of the things we always have to remind each other is to look up. All of the stores, restaurants and attractions have decorations around the top of the buildings, inside and out, but there is some much to do and so much to look at that probably 99% of people just never notice some of those amazing little details.

Even the chimney has intricate detail.

Gates along the line route. Outside looking in.

Glad this line is going nowhere in particular.

Even a photo opportunity outside.

Inlay wood on the ceiling where almost no one will see it.

Ride in style!

Leapin' Lizards - Remember to Always Drink Your Ovaltine

I loved Ovaltine as a kid.  My mom hated it, so I had to buy it with my own money. Annie had some strong power over me!

Fisher Price - Stove - Kitchen Sink - and Tea Set - 1982

This Fisher Price Stove was one of my favorite toys.  I loved playing kitchen, houe and restaurant with my sisters.  I am sort of obsessed with play kitchen and play food items.  Our local children's museum had an entire grocery store that was kid sized.  I still have dreams about playing in there!

I love that you still see these in classrooms and preschools today.  These were made to last and are still super fun toys!

Hey You Guys!!!!! Check out the new Goonies action figures!

Love! Love! Love! The Goonies!  Goonies was filmed here in Oregon.  We are very proud of the fact!  Astoria, Oregon, where the filming occurred, has a Goonie festival every year.  You get to tour the house, and jail and go on your own scavenger hunt!  I always felt sort of cheated by the lack of Goonies merchandise compared to some of the other movies and shows of the day.  Funko now has 3-3/4" figures (Think Star Wars and GI Joe size) of your favorite Goonies.  Some are even on sale!  At $10 or less each, I might get the whole gang!

Fisher Price Little People LOVE - Ward's Christmas 1983

http://home.comcast.net/~toy-addict/HTML/AdvertisingSheets/Wardschristmas83/advertisinginfocatalogswards1983pg59.html

If you were a child in 1983, there is no way that you didn't have at least a few Fisher Price Little People knocking around in your toy box.  A cowboy, a fireman, a teacher, a construction worker, Grover from Sesame Street!  They were lots of fun and had plenty of playsets.  I just see them now and they make me happy.

Planes - Fire & Rescue Give It A Chance

Did you see the first Planes movie? Ugh, me too. It wasn't great. But, don't discount the second movie, "Planes, Fire & Rescue". This movie was sweet, funny and had all of the charm of Cars that you would have expected from the first movie. There are lots of funny moments and grown up humor that kids won't get but will get adults chuckling.   And of course there are lots of lovable characters that kids will love too.

Cabbage Patch Kids 1st Birthday Card

If you were lucky enough to have a new Cabbage Patch Kid in the early 80's the first thing you did was send in the birth certificate so you could "officially adopt" your new kid.  During the next year, on their birthday, which was always the first of a month, you would get this card in the mail.  I want to say it had some stickers in it too.

I also changed my kids names, because they often had some pretty funky names in the box.

I stopped getting cards after the first year.   I guess they don't care that much about Cabbage Patch Adults.

Amazing Strawberry Shortcake First Birthday Party

I had to share this amazing Vintage Strawberry Shortcake first birthday party.  This is one lucky little girl!

Minted and Vintage.com  has a bunch of amazing photos of this super fun looking birthday party.  The table settings are fantastic!

My Strawberry Shortcake themed birthday parties mostly consisted of a Strawberry flavored cake, a sleepover where we watched a Strawberry Shortcake video, and had Strawberry Shortcake cereal for breakfast.  Which turned the milk pink, by the way.  It was just as much fun!

Preserving an American Giant

If you follow this blog you know how I feel about preserving our Pop Culture history.  One of my all time favorite things in this world are Muffler Men.  There is currently a Kickstarter to save a Muffler Man, make him a head and bring him back to his original 14 foot glory.

Visit Roadside America, or USAGiants for more info on these majestic 14'-21' tall dudes!

My nearest Muffler Man in Everett Washington over looks the Navy Yards.
 UPDATE:

The project was fully funded and this Muffler man will be getting his head and arms back!!

Portland Wizard World Comic Con 2014

It's that time again, for the annual Nerd Convention.  What a fun time!  This year I got to meet Kim Coates, "Tig" from Sons of Anarchy.  We also saw a panel with Kim Coates and Ron Pearlman "Clay".  Other fun panels included Michael Roocker "Merle", from Walking Dead, Bruce Campbell, Billy Dee Williams, Ray Park and more!  One of the most fun parts of the show are the costumes.  There were some great ones this year!  My favorite was the Muppets, Beaker, Bunson Honeydew, and the Swedish Chef.
